Not all tattoos are carried out with needles and pain. A henna tattoo is one of the exceptions to the standard scenario, and a beautiful one at that. Henna tattooing is a form of temporary body decoration similar in appearance to a real tattoo. It is a stain on the skin that will naturally fade as time goes by. The color of henna is usually somewhere between red, orange, brown or burgundy. We only use the purest henna paste and natural additives for superior results. It is rare for someone to be allergic to pure quality henna paste, but if in doubt ask to be tested by applying a small amount of henna on your skin and waiting 15 minutes then looking for signs of an allergic reaction. If no rash, burning or blisters are visible it is safe to say you will not have an allergic reaction.

The history of henna is as old as human civilizations. Henna has been used in Babylon, Egypt, India and South America for religious and ceremonial purposes throughout the ages. In modern times it has grown in popularity as a non-permanent way to decorate and beautify the human body.

Watching a henna tattoo being created can be mesmerizing. Some artists like to outline the design before applying the dye. I recommend you bring a picture of a style you like. If you don’t have a style in mind, the artist usually has a book of designs for you to choose from. The time it takes to apply henna varies. Make sure you make enough time for your henna session. Depending on the size and complexity of the design it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours.

HENNA TATTOO AFTERCARE

After the henna has been applied, it has to dry in order to stain the skin. The longer you leave it, the darker it will appear. Let the henna dry for at least one hour, but for the best results leave it on for 8 hours. Never let the henna get too dry, it will easily flake off before it has time to fully stain the skin. Use a cotton ball to apply a thin coat of lemon and honey mixture to keep it from drying too much. If you must wrap your henna design, do so after 30 minutes when it has dried some and will not be removed by gentle touching. Once you have waited 8 hours it is safe to flake off the dried henna paste from your body. Gently rub the henna paste with your hand, any remaining particles remaining can be removed by washing or taking a shower, but please do it quickly for henna does not like long term exposure to water. Dry thoroughly and apply a thin coat of natural coconut or olive oil. Now you are left with a light orange brown stain, no worries the henna will naturally get darker as time goes by. It will reach its darkest color 24 hours after it was applied. Henna can stay on your skin anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks depending on how well it was maintained.
